Aug 31, 2011I’ve spent the last several days on my piece of a writing project I’m working on with colleagues. The baristas at my favorite coffee shop have been observing me pacing, being very focused and intense. Eventually they asked me what was going on.I described how I was working really hard to make this piece
worthwhile, to meet my own standards and hopefully exceed the
expectations of my colleagues. One of the women behind the counter
asked if she could help me. Turns out she is a recent graduate with a
major in public relations, and has strong background in writing,
journalism and English. She’s working at the coffee shop while she is
trying to land a PR job. What a find!
And yet, when she made the offer, something in me asked, “Can I
really ask her to do this?” Well, she did offer. She seemed sincere.
Was I willing to accept her offer? Short answer: Yes.
We ended up spending 3 hours working on my piece. She gave me
EXACTLY the type of feedback I was looking for, and she was delighted to
be able to use what she had been educated to do, and loved to do.
I feel so grateful and fortunate. What if I had not chosen to do my
work at the coffee shop? What if the baristas hadn’t cared enough to
speak up? What if I had rejected her offer? I feel like life presented
me with a gift today.
Serendipity is just waiting for you. Be sure you keep your eyes
open, resist the urge to resist, and don’t miss out on help showing up,
just for you.
Oh, by the way, you’ll be hearing more about this writing project here, real soon. Best Regards,
Mary Schaefer
