What if you became a "thank you" machine?
I ran across this fantastic campaign by TD Bank (they are not paying me to write this) where they made certain ATM machines, "thank you" machines. See the fantastical results here. As one of my colleagues said, I dare you to come away from watching that without a tear in your eye.
Being "believed in" is powerful fuel for human beings. And it doesn't have to cost a dime.
What is your belief about the dignity and potential of human beings? TD went to great lengths to get to know certain customers so that they could deliver meaningful experiences for them. You
can bet those customers are never going to forget that. They are going to share those experiences. My guess is that they are going to pay it forward too.
To me, the campaign represented TD's belief in the best in people. It also demonstrated they believe they can create meaningful experiences for people.
How do you "believe in" those around you?
Do you believe in the vast potential of those surrounding you at work? It's likely that the higher your belief is on a scale of 1-10, the more others will cooperate, deliver and delight you.
What does this mean for YOU?
This is something deeply
rooted in me. I get chill bumps about it. Once I was going on about my belief in people to my coach and she commented, "You know this applies to you too." What? "This vast potential."
She called me out. If I have this belief about human beings, and I suspect, if you are reading this post you probably have some similar positive belief about human beings, why wouldn't it apply to you
too?
Oh no you don't! Don't crawl under that rock.
Who am I to fulfill this vast potential? I'm ordinary. Yet for a glimmer of a moment, it makes me want to soar. I'm going to cultivate that
feeling more. How about you?
Ultimately we all win. After all, to paraphrase Dr. King, you can never be what you are destined to be until others are moving toward their own destiny, and vice-versa. This is an unavoidable reality.
What part are you going to play?
